As usual I do find it difficult to get a true photo of the colour as I use light reflective mediums,
( does anyone have any advice on photographing reflective pieces?)
began with a collaged wooden panel.
Added a bit of cosmic shimmer over the paper, moulding paste and Gesso
worked out where to place the fabric elements.
Close up of some textures. Silvery accents around the wings. The textured effect is made up with layers of foil, the foil shows through in places creating a warm glow.

ReplyDeleteI was at a photography workshop over the Easter holidays, and the instructor suggested using two external flashes on either side of you, behind the camera. Apparently, you can use your internal flash to act as a trigger, and the external flashes will respond. I have to save up for another flash, so I haven't been able to try this, but he claims the light will not bounce of the middle of your art that way. He also suggested to hand the art on a wall, use a tripod, but he suggested that best thing to do is to photograph the art outside in the early morning or late afternoon light!
The vertical panel is so suitable for this subject, it has enhanced the depth of this beautiful piece, love the shapes and textures that are intricate and attractive!

ReplyDeleteWhen I used to make jewellery I photographed my pieces in a light tent with lights positioned either side without using the camera flash. I wonder if that will help.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! It's a great colourcombination too! Have you tried photographing your paintings outside? I would think there would be less glare then....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Morag! Get yourself two photography lights, and position them at 45 degrees either side of the subject, and back a bit. The light from either side should eliminate glare and good photographers light eliminate the flash going off on your camera.

ReplyDeleteooh yes that's what I miss about living in the UK having a nice relaxing Bank Holiday! I remember dancing the Maypole when I was at school but I don't know if they do that in Scotland. Beautiful textures as always. Happy PPF! Emma x

ReplyDeleteI photograph shiny pieces at a slight angle, so that the flash doesn't reflect directly off the surface and back at me.
Can you seem my smile of pleasure across the seas? I love this wonderful, shimmery piece. It exudes light and joy. As far as photographing shimmery pieces, I also find it difficult. I look thru the lens while moving the piece around in different angles and in different lights and then choose the best.
