Mary and the Thistle




Mary and the thistle
The summer of colour challenged us this week to combine Lime green and purple.
This is Mary, she has had a little digital colour change, she started off as a Gelli plate page.


Can you spot her outline on the page?
Sometimes a little face peeps out just waiting to be found.
She looked like a 'Mary '
So Mary she is.
I used bronze and purple colours on my Gelli plate page.


I painted her outline in in Gesso.


Added her features, she has a wild hairstyle!




Added a little more colour and the bright spiky thistles.



And her is Mary in her true colours, still lots of lime green and purple, but with a splash of scarlet and burnt sienna thrown in.

    Ooh, I love her! I really like how you just found her on the page before you knew she was there. Gorgeous colors and texture and movement, and I like that celtic medallion looking thing.

      This is a cool color transformation of the lady's dress and hair! It would be great if this would work for my dresses as well ... a little digital klick and voila .... I am prepared for everything ... your artwork is beautiful!

    I saw her on my side bar and just loved her...the orange sweater is fabulous!! I wish I could wear orange. I can't so I surround myself with it!! Beautiful work!

    Bob and I spent some time last September in Edinburgh and Scotland and were so taken with the beauty of the area. Bob is Scottish descent and even owns a kilt in his clan colors (Anderson).

    Yes she's definitely a Mary, and even has the look of determination that made her insist on emerging from the page. I like the way the shadowing behind her and her red dress make her jump off the page, and highlight the lime green and purple. Another beautiful painting.

    Mary is beautiful in her surroundings! Isn't it the magic of art, when you find something in the jumble of colours and forms? :-)

    Mary's fab. I could really see her outline in the page-I love intuitive art like that. She looks good in the green-I like how you changed that digitally so you could paint her red in reality.
