Under the sea



More mermaids, or sea spirits as I call this pair!
this time on wooden panels




the mermaids made of airdrying clay were collaged onto the panels and modelling paste added for texture.


I covered the mermaids in kitchen foil.


They looked a little strange!



I added some copper paint over the foil to make them look weathered.
I didn't want pretty mermaids, I wanted them to look as if they were part of the sea. 




A few mirrors and shells added more texture to their watery world.

    This is one reason I spend my Fridays glued to the computer. Seeing how you made this just overawes me. The resulting panels are so beautiful. It is so educational as well as fun to see how you made this.

    The detail and texture of your 3-D collages never ceases to amaze me. I am sure they are going to be very popular with prospective purchasers. Definitely appropriate for 'Under'.

    What a very clever idea in using the tin foil on the mermaids, really captures the reflections of the sea, beautiful! You definitely can sense where the artist ( Morag) resides if she didn't tell : ) Adore your magical work!

    Whenever I see or hear the words "under the sea" I think of the song from The Little Mermaid..."Unda" the sea...

    Great work Morag, Wonderful colour and depth. You have such good ideas, I would never have thought of putting tin foil over the clay to make it distressed!
