landscapes and flowers; WOYWW

This week I haven't had much on my workbench as I have been working
on a new canvas. Since last week I have been filling the foreground with a carpet of wildflowers.

Last week it looked like this, the house is, as you can see from the top photograph gone.!
I couldn't get it to work and in the end gave it a wash of gesso to get rid of it. I think I need a break from the painting to see what I need to add to the distance. It needs something but I am not sure what.

I have been using flakes of this lovely copper leaf to add little pieces of shimmer.
It looks beautiful in the sunlight.

Apart from that the only new thing on my desk is my sketchbook.

I have been quickly sketching wild flowers to help with my canvas foreground.
the flowers I collage are fairly abstract but I like to look at how they are formed and use my sketchbook to work out ideas for my collage paintings.

For those visiting from WOYWW here is the finished mermaid box I was working on last week. check out Sundays post for details of how it was made.

Hope the sun is shining in your world.

  3. It's stunning Morag. Last week I couldn't see the landscape as clearly as you confidently said you could...but oh my, I love what you've done..and I have no nowledge of such things, but why does it need a distance 'thing'..don't the big stems at the front give it the perspective? Don't ask me, I'm just the admirer.

  17. That landscape painting is so beautiful You added just the right amount and kind of flowers to it. Love the long thin stems. In my opinion it doesn't need anything else, I would consider it done :-)
