What exactly is 'good taste' ?
Who decides?
I guess this little windmill teapot set could be described as 'Kitsch' and that is why I like it.
So much today is about clean lines, minimal colours and co-ordinating pattern, I'm not sure this little teapot would fit into many peoples lives.
I am a collector of things, if I like something, I like it, and often I can't even quantify why....
Usually the things I love are colourful
Colour makes me happy.
To many people still life paintings are DULL....
Depends what you choose to draw! I love this teapot because it may be many things but dull is not one of them!
I think It was made in the 1930s and is known as a type of china called cottagewear. made by the Price brothers. It is wonderfully frivolous, rather impractical and to many it would be seen as 'bad taste',
Who cares? It is fun! ;)
I used neocolour crayons and pen and ink.

I have many things in my house that might be considered 'bad taste' by some! If I like something and it makes me happy to look at it then in my opinion it is GOOD taste! I love how your painting has been inspired by your teapot and how you've interpreted the texture of the ceramic, it's lovely. It must have been a lot of fun to spend time recreating it in a picture. :) Jess x

ReplyDeleteI love the teapot both real and painting. I too love colour and have a lot of so called kitsch about the house. A friend when visiting kindly said I had a 'retro' feel to my house lol! And I love the milk jug with it!
ReplyDeleteIt's an absolutely adorable charming teapot and painting!! I have such an affinity for some older kitsch things as well!! I have a very old cabinet for those special pieces! Who knows why we love what we do...I can see it marries well with your beautiful artwork...I can understand why you love it!! I have been able to make whimsical things tasteful in my home. My brother came in after our pink paint job was done and said," wow you pulled if off again." He was quite complimentary...I know it's wild so I need to be careful...My dad used to say, " Each to their own, said the man as he kissed the cow!"

Lovely kitschy teapot! Would make any tea gathering more fun for sure! I especially love paintings of colorful cups and pots, there is something very cozy about it!

I certainly recognise the dish to the right in the photo, was it a jam dish? I can remember a tiled roof and a space for the jam spoon.
