forget-me-not beginings

My workspace today has the beginnings of a new collage/painting

A couple of weeks ago I was reading the blog of the very talented Lisa Graham. She had taken a beautiful photo of her riverbank blanketed in Forget-me-nots.
The little flower stuck in my head and I went in search of my own. These ones are not so large, nor do they blanket a riverbank, they are still very beautiful. I wondered If I could incorporate them in a seascape I had begun working on.

For the seascape background I am trying something new. Painting on aluminium foil. I have had several failed attempts so am hoping I have finally cracked it.

There is something very special about forget-me-nots, according to legend their name originates from medieval legend and involves an unfortunate knight and his Lady love. Whatever the origins are, it is a beautiful name.
Who could resist a bouquet of forget-me-nots? ;)

My sketch gives me the form I want to collage. I also stick paper fragments in my sketchbook to help me decide on colours and papers.

Another paper delivery yesterday... Wonderful!!
Paper makes me happy ;)

  3. On foil..crikey..do you have to add something glycerine based to the paint to stop it cracking off? Or is that not in any way a challenge. How interesting. Your sketches of Forget Me Nots are great. Amongst my favourites because they are so hardy and will pop up in the most unexpected places.

    1. Thanks Julia, I found using a little modpoge in the acrylic helps it stick.

  4. Aaah, you have your paper fetish, I have fabric :-) It's funny what keeps us happy isn't it? Often, the simplest things :-)
I love forget me nots too, but what is really making me happy at the moment are the banks of primroses around my village and in my garden..such small but beautiful flowers. The bluebell woods near me are starting to burst too, now that really is a sight to gladden the heart as I drive through there on my way to band practise :-)

  12. We have a load of forget-me-nots growing behind our fence in the "wildlife" area of the school field. I have seen them for sale in the garden centre recently and they cost so much! They are pretty and I have known them my whole life just growing like weeds when I was a child. Enjoy the papers and I hope the art work is sucessful.

  14. This is going to be spectacular - the colours are beautiful already. I adore forget-me-nots and have them all over the garden, and the paths and the steps - they self-seed everywhere! I can't wait to see this finished - that band of green along the bottom is gorgeous. Thanks so much for stopping by my desk earlier, and I hope you have lots of fun with your new papers.
