Enjoying experimenting with my materials this week.
Today's face is drawn onto a collaged background of used tea-bag paper, I even left some of the tea leaves on the paper!
 The square outlined shapes are the teabags which I cut open and washed to remove most of the used leave and then glued to some watercolour board.. I covered the whole piece in matt medium to seal it and added some gold leaf flakes.
It looks very weathered which was the look I was going for. The tea-bag paper is very absorbent, almost fabric like and colour bleeds into the surface beautifully.

A more abstract face today, made with kitchen Aluminium foil! 

I am participating in the 29 face challenge and coming up with a new face every day means I am having lots of fun with whatever I can find lying around.

I first glued some scrunched up pieces of foil onto heavy watercolour board.

I then covered the whole page in another piece of foil and using a teaspoon pressed it down firmly. The relief of the facial features shows through the top coat of foil.. The whole piece is then covered with a coat of metallic copper acrylic paint. I wiped off areas so the foil shows through.

And then with darker acrylic added some shadow to the features. I really like the shimmery metal surface.

today my 9th face of the challenge is collage and paint. I then added a pixlr  overlay which added a canvas texture.

Day 8 of the challenge and an unfinished piece,
This is the beginning of a collage commission I am working on.
 As I have previously explained I often paint the image I want to collage onto canvas or wood first then cover it in various pieces of torn paper and gesso. This is the initial painting which I am going to cover.

This week I have been participating in the month long 29 face challenge and for my day 7 I experimented with materials and mediums. The thing about this challenge is that the act of creating a face every day makes me try to look at how to make each face different in some way.
 I used kitchen tin foil to make her colourful robe. I stuck the foil down and then painted some metallic acrylic turquoise  over the surface, The spots of colour were made with some rather nice purple nail polish I have! I then scratched it a little to make the swirls.

It's been a busy week so haven't had as much time as I would have liked to make each face. I did want to experiment more with new materials, hopefully I will do a bit of that over the coming weeks of the challenge.

today my painting is on a Citrasolv background. Citrasolv is a natural household cleaner which dissolves the ink of the national geographic magazine. I make these papers is batches and they make wonderful coloured papers for collage. I painted the figure in gesso and quickly added some features.

I usually add long flowing hair to my faces, but this strange little face looked better without hair so I left her as she was.

How much of a face do we need to see to know it is a face?
Maybe not that much.
