postcard giveaway and mix it monthly!

landscape and thistles, collaged paper, fabric and machine embroidery

Thistles have been a bit of a recurring theme with me this summer and I have finished some large pieces on canvas incorporating them which I will post over the coming weeks. My sketch book is full of thistle pages and designs. I recently bought a new sewing machine ( My first digital one) and I am learning to love what it can do!!

The thistles carpet the ground throughout August with their bright tufty blooms.
I even brought some inside to paint

.

neocolor crayon and ink

For the mix it monthly challenge I decided to use the thistle theme along with an abstracted design using my favourite copper and silver locket. It has a little copper spiral in the centre of a silver plate.

Mix it monthly. Copper, silver and thistles

I did a few designs around the theme..

The design below is done on my new machine. Its a Janome which I have not owned before and I'm still getting used to it and having fun in the process.

I sprayed the finished piece in cosmic shimmer mist.

And finally my last thistle is a little postcard which I thought would make a nice giveaway! I have been making a few cards over the summer using the themes and colours I have been using

postcard giveaway

It has been just over a year since I began my blog so thought I would celebrate and over the next few weeks give away a few of my summer postcards to my readers. Just leave a comment  saying if you would like me to send you the postcard and I'll draw a name at random next week .

  1. I love Your paintings about thistles and with Your new macine. Especially the Painting "Copper, silver and thistles" is amaising.

I've just set up new homepages to my cards. I collect cards and I make them, too. I'd like to have Your card. Hope...so much :-)

  2. Wow! I love the art you did with thistle! I have always thought of thistle as something to get rid of in our pastures and never thought of doing art with it. I'd love a postcard and would be glad to send you one back.

  9. I love thistles - I'd never seen them in such abundance before moving over here! I didn't realise they also have the white powder puff seed thingies that dandelions have (I'm sure that's not the technical terms for whatever the seeds are called!) I love the variety of thistle art work you've created this week especially the one you did on your new machine and the cosmic shimmer mist - what a fantastic name for a product! I want to get some just because it sounds so magical! I'd love to be in the draw for your Skye postcard- thanks!

  10. Your paintings and machine embroidery are beautiful. Yes please, I would love a postcard - I'd treasure any work of yours.
Coincidence at work. A month ago I bought a new Janome sewing machine, the mini one which is only about 9" by 11". I have a Pfaff wonder machine that cost me £1,000 over 30 years ago but it is too heavy for either of us to lift and carry to the table. I've never been without a machine in my life so I got this baby which is not bad for £56 and I 've been sewing on cards! I love your abstract thistle pieces. Hope you are enjoying Chagall.
