Fairy cakes

 APR Challenge

This weeks Artists playroom challenge is 'whats in your pantry or cupboard'. I pondered a while over this.... I'm a bit of a health food fanatic, so my cupboards contain dried chickpeas, butter beans and other such treats, not particularly exciting to draw or paint!.. However...

One of my cupboards is a little more colourful, it houses the cake decorating goodies! I love decorating cakes, I used to do it fairly regularly for friends birthdays, now not so much as I really don't have time, but I do love all the bright hundred and thousands, sugar strands and candy balls despite my health food puritanical ways.. I must admit though I enjoy looking at them more than eating them, I think all those E numbers would send me haywire :)

  2. Hehehe, I totally agree about loving cake decorating supplies. I have hundreds of powdered concentrate colors for icing etc and I just love rifling through them, all that fun colour, from bisque to aubergine, lol. Thanks for reminding me, great piece, it shows your joy of color.

    1. Thanks, there is something exciting about food colours, I think it is because the tubes are so vivid, 'joy of colour' is a great phrase.

  3. I admire your self-control. No way could I keep a cabinet full of yummies and ignore them! They sure look good in the painting. :-)

  5. I always admire your layering techniques, something I just can't get the hang of. The pantry pic is great. I like the collage elements and think the collage cake cases are inspired. Really lovely interpretation of the challenge.
Am blank at the moment for this next one, as a person who does not like chocolate. Something will come, I hope.

  6. What a beautiful collage/painted piece for the APR challenge, Morag! How interesting that you love to decorate cakes. It's not my forte at all but I did bake the top tier fruit-cake for my daughter's wedding. I decorated it quite simply which was what she wanted, thankfully. I was a bundle of nerves but it turned out lovely. After the big event, I felt quite proud of myself. :)

    1. Thank you Serena, I'm very impressed that you made a wedding cake! I've only made one wedding cake and like you was very nervous at the pressure. You should be proud, making something so special for someone so dear is a lovely thing. :)
