View from the Uffizi
My Artists Playroom entry this week is a collage/pencil/watercolour of Florence cathedral seen from the Uffizi Art Gallery roof terrace. The challenge to use orange and blue or 'blorange' was very appropriate as I just returned from Tuscany, where everything is terracotta and brilliant blue, My post yesterday showed a small selection of my photographs. I have a feeling Florence will be influencing me for some time to come. I usually choose blues and pink/greens in my work, rarely orange, so I am pleased at the vibrant result. If I had to choose my favourite combination it would be 'magencerulean '( magenta and cerulean blue) but now I'm wrapped up in all things Florentine that may well change!

this is very cool, although it's a view, it also has an abstract flavor. great BLORANGE job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer, I really enjoyed this weeks challenge.
DeleteVisiting from the APR - the perspective of this is wonderful. The textures and colours make for a very interesting image with much to see. :0) Mo
ReplyDeleteThanks, I wished when I got home from Italy that I had brought back some Italian newspapers as I use newsprint to build up collaged layers, It didn't seem right to use English news print so I cut and pasted some Italian print, printed it and ripped it up to add texture to the stonework along with some Romeo and Juliet music score sheets :)
DeleteMorag, your Florence collage is absolutely gorgeous! I also enjoyed looking at your photos in the previous post. I can imagine what an inspiration this trip was to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Salla, Florence was a very Inspirational place...very very beautiful. I'm going to do a few small collages like this one in preparation for doing a much larger canvas, which I can keep as a reminder of a fantastic adventure. :)
DeleteWow! This is so cool! I enlarged it so I could see the collaged fretwork over the architecture in the background. This is so clever!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gloria. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the way variations in tone and changes in details lead your eye around the fretwork. So pretty!
ReplyDeletelove this. wonderful perspective, you have inspired me to try collage.
ReplyDeleteWow. It really is quite inspired. Beautiful. I'm so far behind in my blog reading that I missed your Florence trip. How wonderful that must have been. I'll look forward to seeing what you create in future. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting view/perspective, with the dome highlighted so beautifully against the brilliant blue sky. It makes me think of 'A Room with a View'.
ReplyDeleteRoom with a view! great movie :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you use blorange more as the colours worked beautifully in this post... loved this painting...xx
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit to my blog and your wonderful comment! I appreciate it very much! Lovely work! Your art is lovely! :)
ReplyDeletethis is simply BEautimous!! I know this view. it is my heart.
ReplyDeleteThank you Currie! I read from your previous comment that Florence means a lot to you so I'm touched you like it, such fabulous views are easy to create.. the ordinary is less easy. 'ordinary views' now that would make a tough APR challenge! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful and very unique composition. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI love this, so much to see but also a quick look and you think it's an abstract. The view in the background is beautiful and I love the collage on the front. Really beautiful and the colours are perfect.
ReplyDeleteVon.
Thanks Vonny, The view was an interpretation of a photo I took from the roof terrace of the uffizi Gallery. After a hard mornings work looking at the most wonderful paintings stopped for a coffee on the terrace ( a very expensive coffee I remember at nearly 5 euros! ) but it was worth it for the view through the stone carved terrace walls.
DeleteWhat a great entry into the APR Morag,
ReplyDeleteThe combination of the building especially the dome against the sky is perfect!
A beautiful collage/pencil/watercolour!
I've been telling everyone this week that I don't particularly like orange but then you mention Tuscany...well that's special and I never thought about that beautiful blue with the terracotta!
Thank you for reminding me of such an amazing place. :D
Thank you Nessie! I'm with you on the orange trepidation, It is not a colour I use, and I can't imagine wearing it. Blues, especially turquoise and cerulean are more my thing also pinks and purples. It was a coincidence that I had literally just got back from florence when the challenge came up. Wow! I thought, i'm not scared of orange, I CAN do it! I'ts amazing how we feel comfortable with some colours and not with others. Thanks to Jen and tracey for pushing me out my comfort zone :)
