You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.
This weeks collage obsession team have asked for a quote inspired piece, so here is my mixed media canvas. It is made up of paint, textured bead gel and torn citrosolve papers.
The sea looks deceptively calm, the crossing will not be easy, but that is the challenge, to give it a go....

As you can see I intensified the colour to fit in with the Artists Playroom very interesting challenge to look at complimentary colours.
I really should plan my work beforehand. I should study the colour wheel and work out what colour goes with what, but in reality things just evolve. This piece uses mainly golden orange and blue tones which if you look at the wheel are complimentary.I have written before of my dislike of orange, yet when it is teamed with blue I love it!
The complimentary colours lie opposite to each other on the wheel. Purple green, orange blue, lilac and yellow for example.
Earlier in the year I worked on a Blue/orange piece
It is the view from the Uffitzi Gallery roof terrace in Florence of the famous Cathedral. It made me realise that colours I didn't usually use really worked well when used in the right combinations.

And of course Paint party Friday!!

Lovely collage work as always, so detailed. xox
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, love the soft colours and the texture. Valerie
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence. I was only reading on the net about citrosolve the other day. I hadn't heard of it before. The results you get look very interesting. From the picture it looks like you have used the bead gel for the surf. If so, I imagine it to look very effective.
ReplyDeleteThat's really wonderful with the textures and colours. What a gorgeous landscape!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work.
ReplyDeleteTagore is a wonderful poet. Yes, I have been seated by the ocean in so many occasions...
ReplyDeleteYou used orange in a masterfully way here. It's perfect for the rocks against the sea. I also like the strong pink of the peninsula in the back. Have a lovely weekend! :)
so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece, so full of light and interesting movement and shapes. I really love it in it's lighter phase, too. Love the Florence view, too. Very Italian palette!
ReplyDeleteLove the rocks, you are right orange is wonderful teamed with blue.
ReplyDeletenot much what I can say expect absolutely beautiful and stunning work. Gorgeous and delicate.
ReplyDeleteI do love a seascape and yours is beautiful-those blues and orange are fab together and really do compliment each other.
ReplyDeleteI really love this piece morag. You're right about the colours-they work brilliantly together. I love bright colours anyway and this piece is just so vibrant and makes me think of a warm summers day. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI see your work and swoon, something to aspire to, it is so beautiful. What a privilege to know you as a much loved friend x
ReplyDeleteYour colors here go beautifully together, such a summery piece for us all on this cold November's day, this piece sparkles!
ReplyDeleteEntrancing collage and its quotation, and I love the blue and orange combination - my own favourite complementary colours. I wish I could be there standing out and looking at it (on a nice spring day of course). The Uffizi painting is intriguing, somehow a combination of what seems to be an abstract with realism, and works so well with the toned-down blue and orange.
ReplyDeleteYou have such wonderful texture and color on your beach! This is beautifully and creatively done :)
ReplyDeleteWell...obviously I need to be following your blog, because these take my breath away. They are SO incredibly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely to have you join my merry band of followers! :)
DeleteThe colors and textures in this beach scape are amazing. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny because I used to hate orange too. No idea why! I've been finding myself using it more and more recently, I love the warm glow it gives out and along with reds, very relaxing (surprisingly!)
ReplyDeleteLovely work! :)
