seaweed mermaid

Another mermaid is finished to add to the growing collection. I thought my previous mermaid needed a sister.

I think they look rather nice together!
They are clay and collaged paper on wood.

Her jaunty crown was made from beaded edging. I am not sure what it is called but you buy it by the metre from haberdashery shops.

Her hair is very seaweed-like, encrusted with shells.

I can imagine her resting on the rocks and gazing out to sea.

  1. Wow! I wouldn't have thought that there was anything you could do to make these mermaids more beautiful. The addition of the crown and the shells are just the icing on the cake.

  2. Based on your photograph, I can totally understand why you have the desire to make as many mermaids as you can! Beautiful inspiration and mermaids! It is amazing how much detail you put into your small sculptures! Thank you for sharing and happy weekend to you!

  4. They look amazing! It must be so fun looking around the haberdashery for bits and bobs. Could I ask what glue you use?

  6. The pair of mermaids look like sisters, and to me they look as though they are dancing. Strange how we all read artworks differently. And why should mermaids not dance, it seems a lovely thought to see them swaying and turning below the waves.
