Unfortunate and fortunate. My right foot.

Today it's not so much what is on my desk, as I can't get to it at the moment, but what is on my lap!

I mentioned in my last post that I had been ill with pneumonia and was at last on the mend....

Well life often throws us a curved ball and within days of that last post I had fallen down my steps and fractured my foot!
I have never broken a bone before and nor do I want to again. Life on crutches is proving tricky as I can't weight bear for around 4 weeks. :(
Things I take for granted are often out of reach, my house has become an assault course, and trips up or down stairs to be viewed with trepidation.

I have started to sketch on my  lap, it is hard to get things easily to hand so I am using what is easy to get hold of.

Sketching with Inktense pencils.

I have used some of the lovely get well flowers sent to me as inspiration.

I have been doodling flowery patterns too.

Also... Big Tah dah...
I have spent my sofa time learning to crochet, something that until last week had baffled me! Now courtesy of you tube I am beginning a blanket. By the time my cast comes off I want it to be finished. It will be a reminder of how much I take my mobility for granted and how lucky I am to be fit and able bodied ( Usually) Many are not so lucky and it is not a case of enforced rest for a few weeks and the removal of a cumbersome cast.

I may be unfortunate, but I am fortunate in so many ways.

linking up to WOYWW this week as I have lots of time to seek out woolly inspiration.;)

 Learning to Crochet

Linking up to  Paint party friday too where I have lots of time to peruse this weeks artful meanderings.

  1. Oh no! What a start to the year for you! I do hope you're not in too much pain with it. You haven't stopped creating which is fantastic and maybe you wouldn't have started to crochet if this hadn't happened? :) Your crochet certainly doesn't look like a beginners by any means! The colours you've chosen are so beautiful. I wonder if you're going to become as addicted to it as I am? ;)
Get better soon and keep creating, it's so inspiring to see!
    Jess xx

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, I hope your recovery go well. In the meantime you have learnt how to crochet, one of my favorite hobbies. In case you don't know about this site I'll share the link with you. The blog is abandoned, but a huge inspiration inspite of that.

I hope this blog will inspire you as much as it has me.

  3. Oh my goodness this is not good, I am sorry for the pain you have had to endure this year. Sometimes enforced rests come out good, that crochet is something to be proud of and I will check back later to see how it is going. What a great way to have to see desks from your lounge chair. If I was close I would help, so cyber Yoda hugs are going to have to do. Stay happy and get better soon.

    Happy WOYWW
    Hugs Eliza & Yoda

  4. Oh Morag! I'm so sorry to hear about your foot but I'm glad you're still able to create something you can share with us. I always say that I would learn to crochet but I don't want to fracture my foot to do it. lol!

  5. Oh no Morgag...I am so sorry about your foot. Ouch! I DO hope you get your blanket done and you rest well and heal completely!!! Beautiful drawings. xo

  6. Oh dear..sick then broken. So sorry! But, you do have plenty of time to sit still and get some artsy things done :) Love the inktense sketches...beautiful! Happy creating :) Shel-PaperOctilloStudio #42

  7. Hi Morag, thanks for visiting - I thought I'd return the visit, so I've been reading your post.

Poor You! Sorry you have broken your foot - but it looks as if you are the kind of person to take full advantage of your opportunities. Beautiful sketching and also learning to crochet (looks really lovely so far, keep up the good work!). I hope your foot is well soon.
BTW, have you come across the lovely group "The Crochet Crowd"? ( - they are so nice and the members are friendly and supportive. Mikey, one of the group organisers, produces the most Fabulous videos and there are lots of challenges and "how-to" posts. They have a page on Facebook too, if you use FB. Well worth joining in!

    Get fit soon!

  8. Gosh Morag, it doesn't rain but it pours! I'm so sorry that you have broken your foot. What a bummer! But as I see you have taken to crocheting. A handy skill to learn. You'll be making beautiful things in no time.
I love the flowers and the colourful doodles.
I hope your foot heals well,
Thank you for stopping by earlier,
    God bless,

  9. oh get better soon! you are using this down time wisely though!

  10. Oh you poor thing, what a run of bad luck. I hope your foot heals fast for you. At least you are still able to create beautiful things and learning to crochet is a positive. Hope you get used to the crutches quickly.
    Take care,
    Von #5

  11. morag! good grief!! well my friend, i certainly empathize with your feelings, and could not agree more that in the big picture we are very, very fortunate. i've thought that so many times in the past few weeks.

i send you healing wishes , and i love what you've drawn and crocheted!

  12. Hope it heals fast!!! If you need more wool, drop Skyeworks an email and we'll post some!

  13. Oh Morag, I'm sorry to hear about your ankle- i broke my leg when i was 14 and spent 12 weeks in a thigh high cast so i can totally sympathise with you. i am very impressed at you learning to crochet though-that was my plan last year and i got as far as getting a 'crochet for dummies' book but then the hooks i ordered never arrived and then life got in the way-i love your positive attitude and how wonderful to have a beautiful crochet blanket as proof of your industriousness (is that a word? !) during your healing period. x

  14. Your drawings are beautiful - I love the flowers against the black background - very striking. Your crochet is fab, and it's great having something that doesn't need space or much equipment to get one with - and it's so much quicker than knitting! Thanks so much for stopping by my desk, I hope you have a creative week with very few frustrations!

  15. Oh what a nuisance! Hope it all get better quickly.
Your flowery drawings/paintings are lovely and I very much like your crocheted blanket in these colours.
That's a good idea to have a (cast-off in two senses) target to finish it, making gold out of hay or whatever the fairytale was.

  16. Morag your post is filled with beautiful pieces! You are using your sofa time so well, your crochet is so lovely, I love the soft colours you used and your art is always a delight, it's great you got back to that and enjoyed some colour time. The first piece feels Wintery and frosty and the second is full of Summer bloom!
All the best for a speedy recovery,

  17. So sorry to hear about your foot Morag! But not at all surprised that it's not stopping you from creating art - which I think is beautiful by the way - I especially love the black background against the flowers.

  18. Why is it that some people can't catch a break? Sorry to here about your pneumonia, and now your broken bones. Not fun! I have never broken a bone either...knock on wood. I wish you a good recovery!

Your flowers look especially cheery! Congrats on learning to crochet! You are doing a splendid job! I haven't chrochetted in years!

  19. Sorry to hear about your foot, I can imagine how hard it is, I have a broken collar bone at the moment! Get well soon, love all your makes. Valerie

  20. Morag these are gorgeous and still your style is so evident. The universe is taking you in a few new directions!! And for a beginner your blanket is looking awesome! Good job, your stitch is very nice! I look forward to the outcome. Again so sorry to hear that you are laid up but I hear such a positive voice inside your momentary misfortune! Get well soon my friend!! Wonderful to see you making the best of a rough situation!

    Hugs Giggles

  21. Oh you poor thing! Sometimes these things give us no choice but to really slow down and think. Looks like you're making the best of the situation not only by drawing the lovely flowers but by learning to crochet. And you'll soon have a handmade blanket to boot! Hope all goes well with the healing.

  22. Sorry about your mishap. It looks like you are having some good time for art making though. Enjoy that part of it

  23. well, that's a good way to look at it, and so true. We take our health for granted too often, and it's only when something happens that you realize it. Good to have taken the opportunity to learn something new. Crochet is a lot of fun, looking forward to the finished blanket :-)

  24. Oh Morag, I am so sorry that you have had such an accident. It scares me to think of you going up and down stairs on crutches. Do try to stay put if possible! Your artistic talent has not been diminished any from the mishap, though. Beautiful work. And good luck on the blanket. It will be a great reminder to years to come.

  25. Oh goodness me so sorry to hear about your tumble. I think I would go NUTS, not because I am particularly energetic but I am fidgetty and up and down all the time. Get well soon. I love crocheting too. I mostly crochet little animals that I give to friends. Your blanket is so pretty and will be finished in no time. Happy PPF

  26. your crochet looks perfect! And the flowers in blue are my favorite, beautiful!

  27. Many hugs my sweet friend...hope you feel well soon and mend glad you are ok!! Gorgeous creations...wonderfully alive and colorful.....and I love your crochet...beautiful!
Wishing you many and stay well!

  28. At least you will have lots of time to rest and create :), your crochet piece looks so good. Big hugs, much love and lots of healing thoughts to you!

  29. Wishing a speedy recovery! Love the inktense pencils, too! Happy PPF :)
