today my painting is on a Citrasolv background. Citrasolv is a natural household cleaner which dissolves the ink of the national geographic magazine. I make these papers is batches and they make wonderful coloured papers for collage. I painted the figure in gesso and quickly added some features.
I usually add long flowing hair to my faces, but this strange little face looked better without hair so I left her as she was.

What a fabulous background...the colours, the texture and layers invite our eyes into the piece. You are right, the person is a bold contrast to the background, and no hair perfectly suits this face and prevents clutter thus providing more room for our eyes to flow throughout the piece. How on earth did you discover the background technique? A happy accident?
ReplyDeleteThank you Renee, actually I can't take the credit for discovering this technique, I found a very cool you tube tutorial if you have a look at my previous post on citrasolv it explains all

I love the way she looks too. The colors of the papers are really beautiful. What a great tip! Thank you! xo
ReplyDeleteI love her without hair too - and I like the technique you use for the background!
ReplyDeleteI really like the effect the citrasolv makes on the paper-such a good idea for your backgrounds and I do like this bald little face!
ReplyDeleteI really love this, kind of semi-abstract, really striking. I always mean to do the citra-solv thing, because I always love it when I see other people do it.

Oh my goodness, so interesting! And the process sounds so unique. I love the strange little face without hair, especially the bright yellow orange.
