a work in progress,
Still some way to go.
I am going to add lots of wild flowers I think to soften the scene.
The canvas started off like this.
Broad washes of acrylic paint.
Some people ask why I paint and then cover up the surface with papers...?
I think it is because I don't like white, I look at a white canvas rather like a rabbit must look at a car when stuck in a it's headlights.
fearful...
So I cover it and then re-cover it in paper, although layers of the paper still do show through areas of the painting.
much better, I can breathe :)
Scraps of paper and black gesso cover the dreaded white.

Wow, the colours and patterns of the layers are so gorgeous, musical and inviting! They make me want to jump from hill to hill singing, "The Hills are Alive, With the Sound of Music!"
ReplyDeleteOh I love your paper work, it really does come to life and quite dazzles, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove all the lovely coloured papers you use. Although I liked the white in the first picture too....
ReplyDeleteFunny enough I do a similar thing by covering the canvas first in black paint which seems wasteful actually because then I end up adding light paint over the top again anyway! I absolutist love how this is looking in the last picture so far-alk those lovely colors and movement in the foreground. Can't wait to sewed how this pans out.
ReplyDeleteLove how you are building up the layers of colour and gesso. Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove the colours, I feel the same way about white canvas too!

Is this the same painting or 2 different canvases? I love those layers of land made of colours and textures and I can't wait to see the flowers although it looks finished as it is. :)

Lovely to see the development of the painting from your collaged stage. Looking good, I'm ready to see the next stage.
ReplyDeleteI like see your process. I do not like a white canvas too so first off I usually do a charcoal under layer which is totally covered in the end. I also like knowing that there are layers and layers even if nobody sees them. I love how this piece is coming along. It's a beauty already.
ReplyDeleteyou have an incredible way of layers so many papers which add so much to your projects-can't wait to see this completed!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others this is awesome!!! The colors are fabulous and I love the sky.

This looks fascinating, I wouldn't have imagined this collage technique could be used quite like this for landscapes. It looks extremely good so far.
