A couple of weeks ago one of my blog readers asked if I was done with mermaids....
Nope :)
The Gaelic word for mermaids is ceasg
this means maiden of the waves.
I love this description!
The ceasg has the body of a woman and the tail of a salmon, and she can grant her captor three wishes.
My ceasg started off like this...
The 3D effect is moulded paper clay which I painted with acrylics and fixed to a collaged wooden panel.
twisted paper hair is added.
I think she looks rather sad, or perhaps wistful?
BiG thank you for all those who commented last week about photographing light reflective surfaces. I photographed the finished mermaid outside in the evening and I think the colours are pretty true to life, your wonderful advice helped!

'Maiden of the waves' is such a wonderful description, and very fitting to your beautiful piece! Valerie

ReplyDeleteBeautiful mermaid!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you used the colors for her tail.
Another beautiful mermaid, I love her blue hair. I understood that you have been using air dry clay for the body parts. Is paper clay something different ?
ReplyDeleteI love how you are inspired by sea and highlands. you create such a beautiful art, Morag. Your mermaid is magical.Thank you for sharing.

This is gorgeous -you do mermaids so well! I love the 3d aspect and the texture you create in these pieces.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and mysterious mermaid. I think she is thinking that she would like to live outside the sea but it would be impossible unless she constantly wore long skirts.Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteWhen I looked at her, I immediately thought of a mermaid laying in a shallow water on the sand looking up through the water above her at the sun, dreaming about something... Very poetic!
ReplyDeleteVery expressive, personal and beautiful. I love how you've mixed different medias.
ReplyDeleteanother fabulous mermaid
ReplyDeleteOMG she is so beautiful,

I am so glad that you are not finished with your charming mermaids. To me she looks deep in thought. I like that. When I think of Mermiaids I think of the movie Ondine... and of course, I think of you.
