Summer of color; The island

This weeks summer of color selection of red, royal blue and pale blue had a big hurray from me!!!
It gives me a chance to show you this canvas which I have been toiling over for weeks now.
It has had a little bit of digital fiddling thanks to pic-monkey to enhance the tones and fit in with the colour prompt.
colour prompt

This is how it began a few weeks back.

Inspired by this wonderful view of Staffin bay on the Isle of Skye.

I had lots of fun dribbling paint, and used less collage pieces than I normally do, concentrating on making the paint work on its own, letting it run and flow using acrylic flow enhancers.

The rocks are made from pieces of citrasolv papers, which I collaged onto the painted canvas and then protected with acrylic medium. I often look at the papers and think how much they remind me of pebbles.

And this is the painting in its true colours, a little more muted.

  2. Your collage painting is absolutely gorgeous! The stones are my favourite part as well. I really must look into if I can find an equivalent for Citrasolv here in Finland. I've been following your posts on the theme and would love to try!

  8. Morag this is beautiful and has such a peaceful calm feeling to it. Your pebbles are lovely and colourful, you have such a way with colours and textures to bring things alive! That sea is so relaxing to gaze at, sublime!

  9. A gorgeous canvas Morag. The initial blue looks like it was a lot of fun, letting it run free and I agree about the papers looking like pebbles. I love finding speckled pebbles on the beach :D

  23. Oh yes, I like the way you have made the pebbles too, how creative and effective. I also like the diagonal lines in the sky which show up best in the SOC colours picture. Your final painting is lovely, it is beautiful how you have painted the sea..
